Cleaning Your Keyboard...
Hi, I am David McCrady of Traveling Techs, LLC in
Olney, MD. I have been repairing computers for over 40 years.
I would like to help you with the pesky problem of a dirty, inefficient
keyboard.
Have you noticed a build up of dust around your keys? Have you spilt coffee or other drinks accidentally on your keyboard? Have you dropped little crumbs on it? If so join the many people that have done the same thing.
With all of these problems you still can get your keyboard to act like new again. Here are a few helpful hints:
1. Compressed Air: shoot the compressed air into the cracks and crevices around the keys. As you do so you will most likely see dust and debris fly out quickly. This technique will help the keyboard work more efficiently. A can of compresses air will cost you approximately $5.00 and will last for numerous uses.
2. Vacuum: a vacuum cleaner can be used with caution. The suction is very good for removing debris but it may remove the keys. In order to prevent the loss of the keys try putting a mesh over the end of the vacuum hose. Most keys pulled off should snap back into place.
3. Cleaning wipes: presoaked cleaning wipes that are used for kitchen counters can be used to wipe off the surface of the keyboard. Do not use dry cloths with a spray because the liquid from the spray could penetrate below the keys and damage the keyboard.
4.
New keyboard: if all else fails or if you just do
not want to go to the efforts of cleaning, you can just buy a new
keyboard. They can range from $10.00 to $80.00.
No question is too big or
small!!
